Around noon on Friday, Jan. 22, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office set up a perimeter around the Charlotte Campus of Florida Southwestern State College and Florida Southwestern Collegiate High School, in response to a bomb threat received over email.
FSW tweeted a statement, which said, “FSW Police are investigating an unconfirmed and unspecified online threat. Please stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the FSW Police Department.”
CCSO swept and cleared the campus, making sure the campus was secure. At 1:10 pm, officials from FSWCHS updated parents that FSW was given the all-clear to lift the lockdown.
Replying to a comment on Instagram, FSW stated, “This was a threat received by multiple colleges across Florida. There is no new information at this time.” These colleges include Daytona State College and Jacksonville University.
On Jan. 23, FSW updated, “FSW Police found no credible connection between the sender and FSW, and the same email was sent to several colleges and universities in Florida. Out of an abundance of caution, an alert was issued. It has been determined that there is no credible threat at this time.”
