Compass adviser out, paper’s future unclear

FSW terminated FSW Compass adviser Ron Feemster’s employment on March 2.

“The issue facing the college is bigger than my job,” Feemster said. “FSW needs to commit to maintaining a strong college newspaper and journalism program.”

After four years of teaching journalism at FSW, Feemster’s contract was not renewed for the next academic year.

FSW did not provide a reason for his termination. It is not obligated to do so.

It is unclear what the college has in store for the Compass after Feemster’s official departure from FSW on June 30.

Deborah Teed, the School of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences’ dean, declined to comment on the adviser’s departure or the Compass’s future.
