New students are starting at FSW for the fall semester, but there’s a new face you won’t be finding in the classroom.
Brenda Knight was hired as FSW’s registrar at the beginning of August. The former registrar, Garnett Salmon, resigned five months ago after being arrested and charged with rape.
“When you have a registrar unexpectedly resign, you really need someone who can come in and hit the ground running,” said Eileen DeLuca, chair of the registrar search committee and FSW’s provost. “She, of all the candidates, was the one that could do that.”
The registrar’s office oversees student registration and record keeping. It also ensures FERPA (the federal law that protects student academic information) compliance.
The registrar’s office serves the students, said Knight, “all the way from the beginning of the student’s life cycle, when they register for their first classes, to when they graduate and leave us,” said Knight.
