Western Michigan University’s Punta Gorda location on the FSW Charlotte campus will be closing its doors on August 31.
“Shifting higher education demographics and enrollment trends in the region are of concern to WMU,” the university said in a press release February 12. “In addition, WMU’s aviation program enrollment has also been substantially less than anticipated in the first two years of operation.”
The location is in its second year of operation and currently enrolls 38 aviation students. The university determined that the number of students necessary to sustain the program was 200.
“We’re working closely with students to help them move on,” said Paula Davis, director of strategic communications for WMU.
